Short CV Christine Biehler

Christine Biehler (born in 1964 in Landau/Palatinate) is a German installation artist and an art mediator currently living in Hildesheim.
She studied Fine Arts, focusing in particular on sculpture and film/video at the Academies of Art in Berlin and Braunschweig and at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. Daneben schloss sie ein Kunstpädagogik- und Germanistikstudium mit dem Ersten und Zweiten Staatsexamen ab.
Since 1991 she has presented work at museums, art associations, alternative spaces and galleries in Europe and has received numerous awards and scholarships.

The core focus of her art is the transformation of space in the broad sense by means of installation, intervention und action. The site-specific projects are set out as “temporary pieces”. By means of deliberate interference, however, the pieces sometimes condense to poetic spatial images which permanently influence the perception of a location.. The sculptures and installations take aspects of the process and temporary motion into account. Sculpture gains a temporal dimension.

The sculptural interventions allow the viewer to walk through finding his own position and point of view.

As a professor she carried out research at the University of Dortmund, the Academy of Art in Kassel and at the University of Hildesheim in the fields of sculpture, art in public spaces, environmental art and performance art. She also taught students of art, future art mediators and cultural scientists.
From time to time she curates video screenings, exhibitions and projects in public spaces.
