Art and teaching are closely combined within my work. My teaching is based on an artistic approach. I derive the techniques and principles from my activities as a sculptor - such as process orientation, performativity and context relatedness - and make them effective in my educational work.

Focusing on process orientation, performativity and context relatedness I have developed over the last 20 years my own personal approach to the mediation of art in many situations and with very different groups.

Up to the end of 2009 I was Professor for Theory and Practice of the Artistic Design of Space at the Institute of Fine Arts and Art Sciences at the University of Hildesheim and directed and developed the department for space with a focus on installation, exhibition and performance. Before then I worked as a professor at the Academy of Art in Kassel and at the University of Dortmund.

With regards to content the main focus of my teaching and the accompanying research are: working in and with spaces (contemporary sculpture and discourse on spatial phenomena, the concept of space, art in the public space, intervention, picture in space – space as a picture, institution critique), sculpture and time, performance art and action-oriented, site-specific mediation of art.
